Spelling/Phonics- oo,ue, ui,suffixes: ly, ful, er, or, prefixes: un, re, pre, dis, words with: kn, wr, gn, mb.
Reading- Thanks again for having your child read to you at home. We will continue to do worksheets and workbook pages that go with the stories. The following skills are still being reinforced: vocabulary words, decoding strategies, summarizing, comprehension, sequencing, story characters, cause/effect relationships, plot, fact/opinion, story order, and critical thinking skills.
Grammar- Adverbs, sentence structure stressing using capital letters and punctuation, writing sentences that make sense. I will continue to take off points off if capitals and/or correct punctuation is not used.
Math- Knowing when/how to carry/borrow are skills that may need extra practice at home. Please practice the above at home as much as possible and keep going over math addition/subtraction facts up to sums of 18. We will continue to have one and a half minute math fact tests that do count as part of our total math grade. We are working on mental math strategies for addition and subtraction as well as estimation.
